Belfegore - "All That I Wanted"

The delay in posting is due to the fact that I've been busy. It's also why I'm going to be brief. Belfegore was an international metal trio led by Germany's Meikel Clauss that released one indie album called "A Dog Is Born" and one major label self-titled release on Elektra. "All That I Wanted" was the track promoted to radio in America and came along with a music video that featured the band running on a pier on New York City's West Side. The clip was directed by Oscar winner and High Definition Video pioneer Zbig Rybczynski. Belfegore quickly fell away into obscurity but their influence on the Goth and progressive rock bands that followed is undeniable.

Belfegore were definitively no metal band! Their music is much more goth/new wave/postpunk, really innovative for the german eighties underground.

They had several releases in german language:
"Live In Roma" Single
"Belfegore" 12" MiniLP
"A Dog Is Born" LP

Later on Elektra were the last two releases, this time with english lyrics:
"Belfegore" LP
"All That I Wanted" 12" MiniLP

I have been looking for the Belfegore album for as long as I can remember...ok, for as long as 1984. Is there anyway I can get a copy of it? Any suggestions? This was a phenominal album and it's a shame that Belfegore didn't go on to do more. I WANT THE ALBUM!

I LOVED this song, and first heard it played by a DJ at a sketchy bar where we would go dancing in downtown Detroit.

I had to link to your entry, in describing said sketchy bar :-)

I heard 'All That I wanted' in The Kit Kat Club Bayswater London 1986. Brilliant... Reminds me of Goths and Punks dancing in Dry Ice and strobe lights whenever I play the album!

I bought the tape randomly in the mid 80's and it is one of my favorite albums. I want it on cd, the whole album is good in my opinion. my "inspirational" noise before lacrosse games. glad someone else has heard of them.

If anyone is interested in purchasing a dog is born or belfegore's self titled album along with several bonus tracks and rare remixes on cd, please email me at nicknasty14@yahoo.com and put in Belfegore for your subject. I will send you all the info and tracklistings. It will include artwork, cd and case. Great sound quality by the way. I dont see anyone ever deciding to take their stuff and put it onto cd remastered. Heres your chance to get a copy. Belfegore must be preserved!

'All that they wanted' was to be Killing Joke!

How can anybody mention Belfegore without mentioning how much they sounded like a second rate Killing Joke. And that still sounds pretty good!

I bought this album NEW at a great store in Madison , Wi. (Paradise Records...no longer there) on a fluke. Being a new waver, The cover of Belfegore's LP didn't match my look. When I got got home and put it on platter though...EVERYONE wanted a tape. Of course , I lost it somehow. So sad. Rock On.

I have the same recollection as Mr Dipsy, 1986 at the Kit Kat club... Discovered some amazing songs there like this one and got the album. I got Skeletal Family 'Promised Land' on 12" and Sisters 12" 'Temple of Love' and... blimey loads... so thanks to the DJ's there!
